It might not be a coincidence that there is such an increase of autistic people in the world. Currently 1 in 80 persons is officially diagnosed with autism. On a large scale people don’t fit into the social frame (not just people with ASD). What does this mean?
People used to think I was weird, nowadays they say I’m special. Or, like a family member told me recently: ‘I used to be ashamed of you, now I’m proud of you’. What makes the difference? I’m doing something socially accepted: I’m successful in my weirdness. Without a doubt people will start looking at me differently now they know I’m diagnosed with autism. However, my intentions haven’t changed. My passion is bringing consciousness on how human beings and this reality truly function, so that we can live more effortlessly and can add to a positive change in society. And to be able to do this, I got autism to help me.
It happens more and more that children are showing special needs in school and don’t fit into the standard. They can’t get around their own nature. They can’t thrive in an environment that is so different from theirs. They show needs that are out of the ‘ordinary’, but might be very ‘natural’. Like the need for peace and quiet amongst an overload of impulses that is present in our society today. Or the need to work on what it is that they came to do on this earth, their special interests, and feeling awful when they are told to do things that don’t resonate with that. Or the need for clarity, because you need to know how to go about in a structure that is based on so many rules. One could ask oneself: So what is normal?
What ís normal?
The constitution of people with ASD have several characteristics that finely connect to the nature of our reality.
- The perception of the world is through feeling. Stereotypical behaviour originates in this, because this is a way of calming down when overstimulated. It means that much more information can come in than can be processed mentally. However, if you learn to ‘read’ this path, you have access to much more information that you can also use in a positive way on your path.
- Information is processed in a factual and detailed matter. This is also because everything is understood through the law of Nature and there is a strong focus on focus. This is where problems arise in understanding mixed messages, proverbs, sarcasm but also (certain) social expectations. This brain is developed in a more detailed than structured way. This has disadvantages, but for sure advantages as well.
- The absence of a reference point of ‘I’ In social interaction, but also in the planning of the future, making choices and setting boundaries, this is a crucial theme. This is also the reason for the pureness, honesty, respect for others and being less emotional that we see in autistic people.
These three characteristics seamlessly fit in together and give a very interesting overall image. This constitution wouldn’t be an issue at all if autistic people could live in a natural climate. This is why people with ASD thrive so well when surrounded by animals. However, our society is completely different. And this collision makes that certain (survival) behaviour is developed. And on these behavioural traits, researches and diagnoses are based. I’d like to look on a fundamental level.
To put everything in another light, I’d like to explain to you that we human beings have different levels. Depending on from with level you’re looking, you see and experience the world differently (apart from the focus that is also filtering). The levels that are most important here are:
- The Personality Level. The personality is entangled with the physical body, thoughts, emotions, frames of reference and language. This level is a linear level of consciousness. Here the ‘who, what, where, when and how’ rule.
- The Soul Level. This level is characterized by its scope beyond time and space. It has an energetic constitution and energy is based on mathematical logic. On this level are the roots of who we are and this proceeds the level of personality.
In the best case these levels seamlessly work together. However, it is often the case that they are crooked. The level of personality is usually dominant, in which the ‘I’ is literally central. This ‘I’-frame forms the base of social rules in society.
In autistic people, the level of the observer is dominant and the ‘I’-frames are difficult. Form often feels awkward. This is also the reason of the frequent bad connection to the body and the sensitivity for impulses. To understand autism correctly, it would be better to call those two layers the ‘level of form’ and the ‘level of energy’. But because the human ‘level of form’ is so infused with the frames of reference, this is more understandable for most people.
Being in the level of the soul/energy doesn’t automatically mean more consciousness, this isn’t related. So unconsciously, people with ASD unfailingly know when things are energetically logical or not, but they are not always conscious about this. This is because they have learned from a young age that it is important to adjust to a society that is mainly based on rules from the personality level, even though this is awkward for them. So these rules need to be taught and give some guidance in functioning in the world of form. This ‘unnatural’ behaviour for them has resulted in the causing of trauma because of misconceptions on both worlds, which inhibits an optimal way of functioning. So what we prefer for the autistic child, is creating surroundings in which it can grow up undisturbed. Let’s investigate our surroundings a little closer…
“Autism isn’t an illness. The society is distorted. And in those surroundings, someone with autism can be disturbed in his/her development which might cause disturbed behaviour.”
Our Social Climate
Our current society has mainly developed itself on the personality level and in particular on frames of reference…rules. (Ideally it would have developed on the form level, but ego created distorted form). More and more, we forgot that we actually all have a feeling nature and that we react unconsciously, like animals, from the laws of nature. We adapted to social rules. Why? Because in the human herd, it is the standard to be accepted by the herd (read: community) and be safe in this way.
When I look at social rules, they are based on mental assumptions about what someone else should like or needs. Yes, maybe arisen from neighbourly love or sincere interest, but in the meantime it has become a safety net to be liked or manipulate. Effectively, you can never really know what someone else thinks or needs or likes. And the question is whether you should take it as far as not listening to yourself. I have seen thousands of people struggling with social rules that they live with. Not just living up to them, but also the expectation and hope that someone else confirms to those rules. Their personal needs. Needs that are being created for an ‘I’. A concept of ‘I’.
If you ask an autistic person what he/she needs, he/she will have a hard time expressing this. This is because there is no ‘I’-frame to refer to. Yes, there are needs, but they are different from the needs of the ‘I’ that mainly wants to be seen and acknowledged. There is a need to keep the system healthy (which actually is the case for everybody). And there are needs for survival that are necessary in this society, like clarity. There is a need for peace and quiet and to follow one’s own path, without obstruction from the outside. And above all there is the need to focus on that specific interest all day long. In a much more individual way than the community brain. Practical and efficiency come above socially. Of service, to the narrow area that they want to develop as a soul…
Malfunctioning in Society
Many autistic people are stranded in our current society. The (for them) illogical expectations that have to be met. The adaptation that is needed that is so unnatural for them, that they need to completely deny their own nature. A world that is so loud and divided. So focused on rules instead of on connection…
It makes me happy to see so many dysfunctional human beings in society. Why? Because it is turning into a societal problem…that needs to be solved! ;-))) And this is good news, because autism can’t be ‘treated’, because it isn’t an illness… So… There is only one way left to go. Maybe autism is increasing so exponentially, because it is needed to thoroughly base society on different foundations….
